The Director of the EIT, Josè Manuel Leceta and Prof. Matteo Bonifacio, President of What-IF invited Maria da Graça Carvalho to deliver the opening address from the European Parliament at the Conference: "The role of ICT in building an Intergenerational Fair Society" in Budapest.
The EIT in co-operation with What-IF organised a conference on the role of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in fostering a better dialogue and partnership between existing and coming generations. The conference was part of a series of events organised by What-IF throughout Europe.
In the context of the forthcoming European Year of Ageing in 2012 and in the quality of chairwoman of the Friends of the EIT group, Prof. Carvalho spoke about Intergenerational Fairness during her intervention.
In particular, this conference focused on how ICT can support new forms of cooperation between generations but also recognising and posing possible issues of "generational divide".
Among the participants there were the ICT community, policy makers, entrepreneurs and civil society organisations. It brought together prominent representatives including Minister of State, members of the EIT Governing Board as well as stakeholders from the Knowledge Triangle.
