Maria da Graça Carvalho participated as a speaker in the Annual Joint Programming Event 2011. The conference has become the major event for research funders and offered opportunities to discuss the latest policy thinking as regards Joint Programming of research and innovation in Europe and Public to Public Partnerships in general.
The 2-day conference integrated the former "Annual ERA-NET events" and was targeted at policy makers and research funders in Europe, as well as related stakeholders (GPC members, JPI representatives, ERA-NET coordinators and participants, representatives from Art.185, ETP, JTI, PPP, EIT, EIP etc.).
Maria da Graça Carvalho participated in the first plenary session, after a Video Message by Commissioner Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, an introduction by Anneli Pauli, Deputy Director-General "Innovation and ERA", DG Research & Innovation and an intervention on "Towards an effective ERA Framework for Joint Programming" by Jacek T. Gierlinski, Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education,Chairman GPC (High Level Group on Joint Programming).
Ms Carvalho made a Key-note speech representing the European Parliament. During her intervention, Maria da Graça Carvalho spoke about the future of the different EU research and innovation programmes, gave the major guidelines for Horizon 2020. Ms Carvalho also emphasised the need for increased funding in the future budgets for EU research and innovation programmes and outlined the simplification process in broad terms.
