I supported the report because I strongly believe that we can achieve climate neutrality by 2050. The climate law is a crucial step to fight against climate change and we need now a thorough reflection on how to implement the right policies. It will be important to assess carefully the impact of each piece of legislation that will have to be proposed and revised in order to fulfill the promises. Several Member States do not share the same urgency and are very reticent concerning new commitments, but a reinforced ambition is beneficial to boost the collective chances to de-fossilize our economy and society. The challenge mode is on, especially in this period of great uncertainty. We need achievable targets, as there is nothing worse than promising and not delivering. I was preferring the 55% proposed by the Commission and I shared the cautiousness that my group is showing on these political choices. However, I wanted to give a signal of the need to act swiftly to set a route to transform our economy.
