Maria da Graça Carvalho and a group of members of the ITRE Comittee of the European Parliament visited The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology KIT - University of the State of Baden-Wuerttemberg and National Research Center of the Helmholtz Association.
The KIT is one of the biggest research centres in Europe with 8.800 employees incl. 929 professors, an annual budget of more than 700 million Euro and 20.000 students.
In the preceding institution, theTechnical University Karlsruhe, once the braking detections have been made both for radio - by Heinrich Hertz - and for television - by Ferdinand Braun; also the green revolution due to chemical fertilizer has been started here by Fritz Haber's experiments.
Today KIT attracts the best experts from all over the world and is an important innovation partner for industry. In the field of energy research KIT aims at becoming the leading centre in Europe. KIT plays also a major role in the European Institute of Technology EIT.
During the visit the scientists presented a broad spectrum of their research from biomass and environmentally friendly cement to humanoid robots and frontier research into Neutrinos.
