A delegation of Members of the ITRE committee travelled to Brazil between 02 and 04 of April to meet with representatives of industries, research centres, and politicians in order to get a general impression of the Country.
The members that integrated the delegation were Maria da Graça CARVALHO, Pilar DEL CASTILLO, Paul RUBIG, Marian-Jean MARINESCU, Adam GIEREK, Britta THOMSEN and Fiona HALL.
During the visit the MEPs met the Political, Economic and Public Affairs and Trade Sections of EU Delegation in Brazil; the EU Chambers of Commerce and representatives of European business in São Paulo (EUROCAMARAS); as well as the Mobilizaçao Empresarial pela Inovaçao (MEI).
The official delegation to Brazil, met with Brazilian Congress, where they discussed the state of play of the negotiations of Rio +20.
In the meeting with the Brazilian Space Agency, (AEB), there were presented the activities of the AEB and in particular their policy of joint technological development.
During the meeting with CNI, it was explained the industrial, technological, service and foreign trade policy for the 2011-2014 period.
The Seminar "Perspectives for EU- Brazil cooperation in Science, Technology and Innovation" took place at the Itamaraty Palace with the presence of Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry for Industry, specialized agencies and federations, Brazilian Congress, representatives from universities, EU Delegation and EU Member States.
MEP´s also met with the Brazilian Sugarcane Industry Association (UNICA), the leading sugarcane industry association in Brazil; with Amyris, where it was given overview on the activities of Amyris including a demo Plant Tour. To conclude the visit, there was a meeting with Embraer.
