Maria da Graça Carvalho, the European People's Party shadow rapporteur in the Internal Market and Consumer Protection Committee (IMCO) for the new European Union Data Act.
The new regulation aims to guarantee fairness in the digital environment by stimulating competition in the data market and creating opportunities for data-driven innovation. It also aims to make data more accessible to everyone, enabling the development of new services and more competitive pricing for after-sales and repair services for connected objects.
It is estimated that the new Data Act will provide very significant gains for the economy of the member states, with the European Commission pointing to figures in the order of 270 billion additional euros in European GDP by 2028.
This regulation is the last horizontal component of the data strategy presented by the Commission, which aims to realize the digital transformation in line with the digital goals 2030.
