MEP Maria da Graca Carvalho was invited to participate at the informal Council of EU Ministers of Science that took place on July 16 in Brussels alongside the 27 EU Ministers of Science. The MEP attended the meeting acting as Rapporteur for the simplification of rules of participation in current and future programs for Science and Innovation. "
Maria da Graca Carvalho stated that this "shows the importance that scientific research has on the world stage." It also shows, she added, "that it is necessary to redefine the existing model. We are dealing with one of the largest engines for growth in the economy and we must facilitate the participation and the continuing work of our investigators. "
The European Commissioner for Science and Innovation, Geoghegan Quinn presented a simplification of the Programs of Science and Innovation. After this intervention, Maria da Graca Carvalho presented her report to the 27 Ministers of Science. This report will be voted on by the ITRE Committee in September and October during the plenary session of Parliament.
The report aims to redefine the rules for participation in programs for Science and Innovation in order to facilitate participation.
