Subject: Improving the early detection of breast cancer as part of Europe’s beating cancer plan

In Europe’s beating cancer plan, the Commission pledged to improve early cancer detection and help Member States ensure that 90 % of the EU residents who qualify for breast, cervical and colorectal cancer screenings are offered this service by 2025.

At the same time, the number of breast cancer cases in Poland has doubled over the last 30 years, leading to a very difficult situation for women living in rural areas in particular. According to a report by the Polish Supreme Audit Office, less than 50 % of eligible women participated in breast and cervical cancer screenings. This is an issue not only in Poland, but also in many other Member States.

1. What measures does the Commission intend to take to create reliable indicators of the progress of national cancer plans in the Member States?

2. When can we expect detailed information on the updates to the Council Recommendation of 2 December 2003 on cancer screening?

3. Will funds from the EU4health fund also be available for social media information campaigns in the Member States?
