Maria a Graça Carvalho, MEP of the EPP Group and co-chair of the MEP Heart Group, sent this Thursday a written question to the European Commission on Cardiovascular Diseases. "60 million people in Europe (about 1 in 10 Europeans) live with CVD. This number has been
exacerbated by COVID -19 pandemics.
Tools such as CVD registries have the potential to address technical, infrastructural, and behavioural
challenges in the management of this disease.
These registries can identify innovative therapies and treatment models. They can also highlight
missing services and support self-management of CVD through community-based approaches and
digital technologies.
1. The European Health Data Initiative provides an opportunity to harmonise
cardiovascular disease data and improve the quality of care for cardiovascular patients.
Is part of the EHDS initiative exploring or creating pilot registries for cardiovascular
disease across the EU?
2. In 2018, the Commission Communication entitled 'Transformation of Health and Care in
the Digital Single Market" identified priority areas for action. One of these was the need
for interoperability, digital infrastructures and training. How will the Commission
support Member States in implementing digitally integrated and patient-centred models
of CVD care that leverage health data and health technology assessments?"
