Work in Parliament European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT)

The vision of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) is to be a key driver of sustainable European growth and competitiveness through the stimulation of world-leading innovations with a positive impact on economy and society and its mission is to grow and capitalise on the innovation and capability of actors from higher education, research, business and entrepreneurship from the EU and beyond through the creation of highly integrated Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs).

The EIT has decided in December 2009 to designate the first three KICs:

• Climate change mitigation and adaptation: Climate-KIC
• Sustainable energy: KIC InnoEnergy
• Future information and communication society: EIT ICT Labs

I would like then to raise the following questions:

1. What is the balance of the call for proposals in terms of number of proposals submitted, number of proposals accepted, and percentage of Universities, Research Centres, Industry and SMEs in the universe of submitted proposals and of the universe of proposals selected?
2. Has the negotiation process been finished? What was the selected model for the financing process (e.g. lump sums in the result-based approach)?
3. What was the geographical balance of participant partners in the submitted proposals and in the selected proposals?
4. What are the future plans of EIT on further KICs?
