Work in Parliament Question for written answer E-001164/2022 about the management of EU funds for water and sanitation investments in Portugal

When directing calls for tender at associated entities, the Government of Portugal prevents the municipalities that have not joined the systems predominantly owned by Águas de Portugal – an entity set up without a public tender – from accessing cohesion policy funds intended for water and sanitation investments.

In view of this, can the Commission say whether there is a legal basis or any other kind of justification for this discrimination against municipalities that have not joined inter-municipal systems predominantly owned by Águas de Portugal?
