On Wednesday Maria da Graça Carvalho was elected deputy coordinator of PPE - European People's Party in ITRE - Committee on Industry, Research and Energy, one of the most important and comprehensive EP commissions.
"I am proud of the confidence expressed by my colleagues," said the MEP about this election. "It implies the responsibility of coordinating a very important area for Europe, which covers Industry, Small and Medium Enterprises, Energy - with implications for climate change -, Science and Innovation, Information Society and Artificial Intelligence".
For the MEP, the challenge will be particularly relevant because it is “a work of political orientation in the largest group of the European Parliament, which is the European People's Party”.
In her previous mandate in the European Parliament (between 2009 and 2014), Graça Carvalho was the main rapporteur for the Horizon 2020 Specific Programme, which allowed to double the European funds granted to Portugal in Science and Innovation; and, at European level, to raise this financial envelope of 80 billion to 100 billion euros.
