Maria da Graça Carvalho was appointed shadow rapporteur in the the IMCO commission report on the “Framework of ethical aspects of artificial intelligence, robotics and related technologies”.
The discussion about artificial intelligence and its impact on society is increasingly focused on the question of whether AI should be regulated. Following the European Parliament's call to update and complement the Union's existing legal framework, guiding ethical principles, the EU adopted a “human-centred” approach, respecting European values and principles.
As part of that approach, the EU published its guidelines on AI ethics in April 2019, and the President of the European Commission announced that the Commission will shortly present new legislative proposals for a coordinated approach at European level, taking into account human and AI ethics.
