The ITRE Committee meeting invited the Director General DG Energy, Philip Lowe.
Maria da Graça Carvalho asked some questions to the Director General:
"I would like to know about the support of the Commission to the Research Projects and demonstration projects in the area of energy savings in process industry. Also I acknowledge the role of the Intelligent Energy Agency and the "Programme Intelligent Energy for Europe" in supporting energy saving duties and the agencies. I would suggest an increased of support of this kind of actions".
Mr. Philip Lowe answered MEP Maria da Graça Carvalho that "a lot of improvements have been made in the energy saving industry, but this does not mean that further improvements are not necessary. Binding requirements for industry should be a criteria for accessibility of public funding. Structural funds should be used more in energy saving projects. Set-Plan should have a stronger emphasis on energy efficiency. "
