Work in Parliament Eurodeputados pedem aos líderes da UE medidas para erradicar a violência doméstica

Maria da Graça Carvalho co-signed with the EPP FEMM Coordinator, Frances Fitzgerald, the EPP President, Manfred Weber, and the EPP Working Group President on Legal and Internal Affairs, Esteban Gonzalez Ponsa a letter addressed to the presidents of the EU institutions on violence against womem.

In this letter, members of the PPE Group in the European Parliament and in FEMM - Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality begin by drawing attention to the stark and dramatic increase in domestic violence across the EU during the period of confinement due to the coronavirus outbreak. In this context, members call for concrete actions by different decision makers and to demonstrate their commitment to combat this form of violence. The proposed measures include, among others, the ratification of the Istanbul Convention by all Member States and the EU and the drafting by the Commission of a proposal for a directive to combat gender-based violence.
