Work in Parliament Towards financially sustainable universities: European universities diversifying income streams

Other Activities | 22-02-2011

Maria da Graça Carvalho participated in the launch event "Towards financially sustainable universities: European universities diversifying income streams", organized by the EUA - European University Association

The event revolved around the launch of a new EUA publication which focuses on the challenges to and success factors for income diversification in higher education institutions throughout Europe (see report here).

The report includes an executive summary, the study itself, recommendations to universities and funders, and finally an overview of the impact of the economic crisis on universities.

Funding schemes and their modalities are an integrant part of the analysis, and the report calls for, in synergy with the work Ms. Carvalho has carried out, a major simplification effort.

The programme of the event included a session in which Ms. Maria da Graça Carvalho and Mr Jordi Curell, Director at the Directorate General for Education and Culture, gave their perspectives on universities' financial sustainability.

The event took place on Tuesday 22 February at the Permanent Representation of the Free State of Bavaria to the European Union, in Brussels.
