Work in Parliament Research and Respiratory Medicine: Addressing future challenges for improved lung health

Maria da Graça Carvalho attended the seminar on 'Research and Respiratory Medicine', organised by the European Respiratory Society (ERS) and hosted by MEPs Ioannis Tsoukalas and Satu Hassi.

During the seminar, that took place in the European Parliamen, it was discussed respiratory research priorities and future challenges for improved lung health as part of the EU health and science policy agenda.  

Prof. Ioannis A. Tsoukalas and Ms. Satu Hassi, welcomed the participants; Prof. Nikos Siafakas, ERS President talked about "2010 Year of the Lung objectives"; Prof. Sven‐Erik Dahlén, ERS Research Director  made a speech about "Respiratory research community's view on the future challenges in Europe for improved lung health"; Ms. Patricia Reilly, Member of Cabinet, Science and Society (incl health) of the Research, Innovation and Science Commissioner Máire Geoghegan‐Quinn spoke about the "European Commission"; Mr. Jiří Buriánek, Director, Directorate C, Competitiveness, Innovation and Research, talked about"General Secretariat of the Council of the European Union".

The seminar ended with a General Discussion on Society's Grand Challenges and how European medical research can be part of the solution
