Maria da Graça Carvalho participated in the debate 'Putting Europe at the forefront of innovation in drug development' organised by the Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) and hosted by Petru Luhan MEP, in the European Parliament. The event pretended to review IMI's achievements and discuss how the lessons learnt from the implementation of IMI could be carried forward into Horizon 2020.
In her quality of rapporteur for the specific programme implementing Horizon 2020, Ms Carvalho addressed the audience over the future of European pharmaceutical and medical research.
This was a timely event coming after the European Commission's proposal of 10 July for IMI 2 to be launched under Horizon 2020. It represented an opportunity to have a debate with the European Commission, the pharmaceutical industry, patient representatives, academia and stakeholders in the field of health and innovation.
