Maria da Graça Carvalho participated as a speaker in this debate organized by Max Planck Society.
The Max Planck Society has recognized the need to introduce excellent research to the structurally weak and disadvantaged regions in Europea. Numerous researchers from the new EU member states would like to return to their home countries. However they would not find the same excellent research conditions they had. As a consequence, innumerable talented scientisits from the new EU members states settle in the USA or in emerging Asian states.
During the meeting members of the European Parliament discussed this concept.
