The objective of the meeting was to discuss a future Food KIC as the EU is carrying out a high priority strategy within innovation by establishing several KICs (knowledge and innovation communities) that connect excellence within industry and universities in international, European consortia, through the EIT (European Institute of Innovation and Technology).
The next round of KICs is expected to be launched 2013/2014 and a group of countries is working together establishing the strongest possible consortium (Foodbest) for a Food KIC. The countries are DK/S, NL, F, UK and Italy.
During the meeting, the representatives of Foodbest spoke about the Food KIC, which could be an efficient tool for boosting food innovation in the future, and provided Ms Carvalho with information on the project and discuss the project's further development, including how to further ensure EIT's focus on innovation conditions for food and ways to contact other relevant stakeholders.
