The Covid crisis has shaken our societies and economies by their foundations. The weaknesses that were highlighted in terms of medical supplies in all the Member States show how fundamental is to reinforce our industrial base in order to become more autonomous. There are many regulations imposing deadlines that shall be analysed and where possible reviewed to soften the impacts of the crisis on industries that are heavily suffering from the disruptions of key supply chains. Postponing the date of application of the regulation on medical devices is a small change in comparison to what is happening around the world, and the Commission should give more speed in the analysis of where else is necessary to intervene to loosen procedures and reduce burdens during the current pandemic.
