Maria da Graça Carvalho participated in the debate of the Roundtable on Scientific Publishing and Innovation which was organized by The International Association of Scientific, Technical and Medical Publishers STM.
The event was a discussion about how innovation in scientific publishing is a continual process, and is furthering the effective use of scientific information, and progress of research. Maria da Graça Carvalho participated in the debate on innovation in scientific publishing, which was moderated by Ann Mettler, Executive Director from the Lisbon Council.
Scientific information becomes ever more wide-ranging and overwhelming, making it more challenging for an individual to find and manage the necessary information. At the same time, scientific and technological progress requires more sophisticated and creative ways to make use of the information. New and innovative tools to harvest, link, manage and combine existing findings and ideas are therefore crucial in ensuring they are exploited to the fullest.
The objective of The International Association of Scientific, Technical and Medical Publishers STM roundtable was to discuss how innovation in scientific publishing can enable scientists and entrepreneurs to move scientific and technological development forward. As an example of how innovative approaches can overcome the challenges posed by the information revolution, the discussion also presented the ORCID initiative, which aims to establish a registry resolving name ambiguity within the scholarly ecosystem.
Programme:
This roundtable was organised in coordination with the Global Research Data Infrastructure (GRDI2020) conference, co-organised by the European Commission. GRDI2020 focuses on the global requirements for a research data infrastructure to cope with the challenges posed by the ever growing amount of scientific data.
