Maria da Graça Carvalho participated in the EPP Hearing on the Internal Energy Market hosted by Professor Jerzy Buzek MEP, former EP President, Rapporteur for the Internal Energy Market. This took place today in the European Parliament.
Among the speakers were the European Commissioner for Energy Günther Oettinger and Amalia Sartori MEP, chair of the ITRE Committee.
Maria da Graça Carvalho moderated the painel Current challenges in completing the internal Energy market. During her intervention, Ms Carvalho said that "we have to make sure that our energy is clean, affordable and accessible for all". She also declared that "we must seek to both develop existing technologies and foster new technologies in such a way that we improve the supply of cheap, available energy whilst ensuring that such technology does not impact negatively on the environment".
The speakers of this painel were Michael Goodwin, Energy Policy Adviser at the Irish Permanent Representation; Prof Krzysztof Zmijewski, Secretary General of the Social Council of the National Emission Reduction Program in Poland; and Ann-Katrin Schenk, Policy officer at the European Federation of Local Energy Companies (CEDEC).
