The six Portuguese MEPs wrote a letter addressed to Commission President von der Leyen, European Parliament President Sassoli, European Central Bank President Lagarde, and to the Portuguese Prime Minister António Costa with proposals to combat the Covid-19 crisis, TSF Online reports. In the document, the MEPs propose 17 measures to contribute to “an urgent common solution”, based in solidarity. The MEPs defended their support for Coronabonds, the creation of an unemployment reassurance, the reinforcement of the European funds, and the adoption of a global economic recovery plan. The MEPs also proposed a rescue plan for the tourism, the agriculture, and the fisheries sectors. An immediate investment of 2 billion Euro in research for a vaccine and treatments for Covid-19 and an extension of the Brexit transitional period are other measures proposed by the MEPs.
