Next week from 18 to 20 July six members of the Committee for fisheries will visit several fishing ports and facilities in northern Portugal.
On Monday 18 July six fisheries committee MEPs will travel to Porto for a 3-day mission. They will meet local fishing operators, companies providing technological solutions for the fishing sector, including those working with artificial intelligence and several marine-oriented start-ups. MEPs will also witness conditions in the ports of Leixões, Angeiras and Matosinhos, they will meet local fishers and watch their morning activities and they will have a chance to talk to fishing organisations´ representatives.

Ahead of the mission, the chair of the fisheries committee Mr. Pierre Karleskind (Renew, FR) leading the mission to northern Portugal said: "Thrilled to be heading the European parliament’s delegation to North Portugal. Fisheries is key sector for sustainable coastal areas development, all around Europe. We will be visiting different fishing ports and witnessing their operational conditions. We will also be on site of five innovative projects on sustainable fisheries. Ideas that we will make sure to bring back to the European Parliament."
For the mission to northern Portugal, Mr Karleskind will be joined by five other MEPs: Ms Maria Carvalho (EPP, PT), Ms Elżbieta Rafalska (ECR, PL), Mr João Pimenta Lopes (The Left, PT), Mr Manuel Pizzaro (S&D, PT) and Ms Isabel Carvalhais (S&D, PT).
