Maria da Graça Carvalho, chair of the EIN Working Group on 'Research and Innovation', hosted the meeting 'The Economics of Intellectual Property', which took place today in the European Parliament in Brussels.
The meeting was chaired by MEP Maria da Graça Carvalho, and the key note speaker was Mr Theon van Dijk, Chief Economist at the European Patent Office. The main speech was followed by some brief interventions of the MEPs and the participants that attended the meeting and an open debate afterwards.
The aim of the meeting was to discuss the future of Research and Innovation. The main objective was to address the following issues: Economic impact of patent system; Benefits of the unitary patent; Need to create a transparent and secure patent licensing market; Grace period issue; How patent system will adapt to the needs of an Open Society - pressure for open knowledge, open access for data, software, technologies.
