A more humanized digital society.
In my lexicon, “digitalization” is synonymous with “democratization”, in terms of empowering populations and accessing information around the world. I see digitalization and Artificial Intelligence as powerful tools for building a more prosperous, more sustainable, and more just society. The reach is transversal: in the economy, contributing to the competitiveness and growth of companies; in the public sector, with gains in efficiency and quality in service to citizens; in Education, opening doors of knowledge and diminishing physical and social boundaries; in the Environment, reducing the need for different raw materials and improving the energy performance of infrastructure. But this is a process that, although unstoppable, must be accompanied by constant impact assessments and with ethical issues always present. We must prepare our European society for the challenges that new technologies pose in terms of the survival of some sectors and traditional jobs. We must be constantly on the lookout for misuse of data that could threaten not only the privacy of citizens but the quality of our democracies.
