Today in the European Parliament, Maria da Graça Carvalho, Member of the Industry Research and Energy Committee co-chaired a debate with the President of Redes Energéticas Nacionais (REN), about the future of energy infrastructures in Europe.
The purpose of the debate was to discuss the funding and the regulation environment of the European Energy Infrastructure strategy.
The President of the National Energy Grid in Portugal, Rui Cartaxo made an intervention about The Importance of the energy infrastructures in Europe and about the priorities for EU infrastructure development (see apresentation here).
For Maria da Graça Carvalho "the impact of new and emerging technologies such as smart grids and energy storage solutions is considerable. The MEP also added that this debate is "particularly timely given that the EP is currently elaborating priorities for energy infrastructure for 2020 and beyond; it is also preparing the new European Financial Perspectives and will also start working on its report on smart grids" (see intervention here).
